NRL: League legend Steve Roach fires up at NZ Warriors winger Ed Kosi in victory over North Queensland Cowboys

Australian NRL legend Steve Roach has taken aim at NZ Warriors winger Ed Kosi over his theatrics in their 22-14 victory over North Queensland Cowboys.

In the seventh minute of the Mt Smart clash, Kosi was taken in a two-man tackle, with forwards Reece Robson and Coen Hess stopping him in his tracks.

As Hess went low, Robson went high to wrap Kosi and stop a potential offload, but appeared to connect with Kosi's head.

As a result, Kosi stayed down clutching his jaw, before referee Chris Sutton awarded a penalty to the Warriors.

As soon as the penalty was awarded, Kosi's pain appeared to dissipate, as he sprang back to his feet and returned to his position.

His behaviour didn't go down well with Fox Sports commentator Roach, affectionately known as 'Blocker'.

"I've got to say, I'm starting to get annoyed with players staying down, feigning injury,' he said. "They've obviously been told by the coaches, if you get hit on the chin, you stay down.

"You see straight away, as they got the penalty, straight up to his feet."

Roach is no stranger to criticising the Warriors. In 2016, he was forced to apologise for saying the Auckland side played "jungle ball" in their defeat to Canberra Raiders.

In fact, Roach's supposed bias against the Warriors prompted a 2020 petition to bar him from commentating on their NRL matches.

"For years, Blocker Roach has been commentating on [the] majority of the New Zealand Warriors games every season," the petition reads.

"As Warriors and NRL fans, it makes watching these games an absolute nightmare, as he is so biased against the Warriors, no matter who they play.

"It is so obvious that he wants the Warriors to lose and has an agenda against every single Warriors player, including those players who now play for other clubs.

"The time has come to make a stand against this commentator who is paid to have a neutral, unbiased stance on all games. Enough is enough."
