NZ Kiwis and Cronulla Sharks winger Ronaldo Mulitalo was left red-faced, after bombing a guaranteed try in his side's 33-20 victory over Canterbury Bulldogs in the NRL on Saturday.
Late in the second half, and with the Sharks ahead 30-20, Mulitalo appeared to have sealed the round eight victory, when he dived over in the corner for what should have been an eighth try in seven games this season.
However, despite the on-field try having been awarded, replays showed Mulitalo had put his left hand into touch when diving, immediately seeing the try wiped.
The mistake is the second time Mulitalo has failed to score what should have been a straightforward try.
In the first game of the season, South Sydney Rabbitohs halfback Lachlan Ilias knocked the ball from Mulitalo's hand, as Cronulla crashed to a 27-18 defeat.
Despite the blunder, Mulitalo played his part in the Sharks' win, setting up teammate Matt Moylan to score at the start of the first half.
"The boys are going to give it to me on Monday, but I am prepared for that," Mulitalo said post-match.
"I tried to be too conservative. Lachlan Ilias is giving me nightmares about my put downs, so I gunned to the corner, I went hard, and I just wanted to make sure I got it down.
"Unfortunately, I had my hand out so maybe I need to back myself more and get into the in-goal, but I saved one and set one up, so at the end of day I don't feel too bad."
To spare Mulitalo's blushes, the Sharks were able to run in five tries, including a hat-trick to fullback William Kennedy, before a late penalty and field goal to halfback Nicho Hynes put the result out of reach for the Bulldogs.
