Crazy scenes have engulfed American Major League Rugby (MLR), as rival coaches came to blows during play.

As Houston Sabrecats and Rugby New York met in the MLR, the two opposing coaches let their emotions get the better of them and were physically separated to avoid serious harm being inflicted.

During a stoppage in play, Houston coach Pote Human stormed onto the pitch, pointing aggressively, before New York head of high performance Ollie Richardson intercepted him.

In footage captured by the broadcast during a commercial break, Human can be seen connecting with an open palm slap on Richardson, who responded with a punch, before the duo were separated.

They were both ejected by match officials, with the MLR expected to hand down further punishment to the respected coaches.

Houston went on to claim a 34-27 victory over New York and moved to second in the MLR's Western Conference.

Meanwhile, New York are third in the Eastern Conference, 11 points behind New England Free Jacks.
