Kiwi Paul Coll's quest for a third straight British Open crown remains on track, after his quarter-final win over Marwan ElShorbagy on Saturday (NZ time).
Coll overcame a slow start to record an 8-11, 11-8, 11-6, 7-11, 11-1 in just under 70 minutes of action to book his place in the final four.
He'll face No.1 seed Diego Elias in the semi-final on Sunday morning.
The world No. 4 looked in control against the Egyptian, who appeared out of sorts at times, as he struggled with dizziness and a pain in his stomach, taking a three-minute injury break at the end of the third set.
But a late lapse in concentration allowed ElShorbagy back into the contest, forcing the match to a decisive fifth set, which Coll ultimately closed out with ease.
"It was a mental battle out there for me tonight," Coll said after his win. "I'm not sure what happened at the end of the third, but I hope he's alright.
"It definitely got in my head a bit in the fourth and I made some stupid mistakes. I ended up pulling it together in the fifth but it was an up and down one tonight… it was all about the mentality and pulling through.
"It would be amazing (to make it three British Open title wins in a row). It's one of the most prestigious titles on tour, so to have my name on that trophy three times would be absolutely amazing.
"I'll recover tonight and will give it my all tomorrow."
Coll's compatriot Joelle King will also play her semi-final on Sunday morning, taking on Nouran Gohar in the women's draw.
