German freestyle motocross world champion Luc Ackermannn has taken Mother's Day gifts to a new level, performing a tandem backflip on his bike with his mother aboard.
Ackermann, 25, is the youngest rider to perform a double-backflip on a motorbike and surprised mum Melitta, 55, with a world-first tandem jump - the first son-mother duo to complete the feat.
With Melitta on the front of his bike, Ackermann cleared a height of 8.13m, before landing on an airbag.
"The idea came from my mother herself, who has always wanted to do a backflip with me onto a real landing since her 50th birthday," Ackermann said.
"Before the first jump... I noticed that my mum was extremely nervous, but she trusted me.
"That was the most exciting jump of my life. I'm super proud of my mum for doing it."
Red Bull-backed Ackermann has competed on the world stage since his mid-teens and is one of the world's most exciting riders, winning a freestyle motocross gold medal at the 2021 X Games.
For mum Melitta, who runs a nursery in Germany, flowers will probably be enough for next Mother's Day.
"It was an incredible experience," said Melitta Ackermann. "I wouldn't do it again, but I realised that Luc had everything under control at all times."
