New Zealand has come up just short in a dramatic sprint finish at the Sail GP Grand Final in San Francisco.
The Kiwis looked out of the million dollar decider early on before eventual winners Australia appeared to have bottled it within touching distance of the finish.
For five legs, Sail GP's winner takes all Grand Final was all green and gold.
But when driver Tom Slingsby and Australia came off the foils, it almost let New Zealand back in.
However, it was a chance the black boat couldn't capitalise on. In the end Peter Burling's crew came up agonizingly short.
"[I'm] absolutely gutted," said Burling post-race. "[It] felt like we battled all weekend, and finally had a good one at the end and got so close."
The emotions were very different for Australia - now three-time Sail GP champions..
Australia were the form team heading into the final with victory in fifth and final fleet race.
New Zealand on the other hand were struggling.
They were much improved in the three boat final, as Burling challenged Slingsby to the first mark.
But as Australia have done all series, they led the way, leaving the Kiwis left with it all to do.
The miracle almost happened with Australia's mistake, but it was too little too late.
"For the effort the team put in, to claw it back from there makes me really proud of the group we've got," added Burling.
"It wasn't to be today, but we gave it our best."
Their best not quite enough to rattle Sail GP's most successful driver
"'You've had the lead the whole race, you can't choke at the finish,'" said Slingsby. "It's sad but that's what was going through my head, I thought we might have lost it."
