The New Zealand Breakers have recruited Australian NBL veteran Dane Pineau to replace retiring centre Rob Loe.

Loe announced his shock retirement earlier this month, with the Breakers wasting little time to line up his successor.

Pineau, 28, will instead fill the role as team's backup big man for the next two seasons, as they prepare for 2023/2024.

He last played for the South East Melbourne Phoenix, where he spent four seasons, after starting his career with the Sydney Kings.

Pineau won't have to look far for familiar faces at the Breakers, having previously played with guards Izayah Le'afa and Cam Gliddon.

With 131 appearances of experience to call on, Breakers coach Mody Maor expects the new recruit to hit the ground running.

"Dane has great Pick and Roll attributes, making him an extremely natural fit into our environment and style of play," he said.

"I believe moving to Auckland will be a seamless fit for Dane.

"Dane is one of the hardest playing players in the NBL, and he has done so consistently over the past few seasons, regardless of his role in a team."

Pinaud played college basketball at Saint Mary's in California, where Breakers teammate Dan Fotu also previously represented.
