NRL: NZ Warriors' home ground to be renamed Daniel Anderson Stadium in support of former coach

NZ Warriors' home stadium will undergo another name change as a tribute to former head coach Daniel Anderson.

After last month going from Mt Smart to Go Media Stadium, it will take on the moniker of Daniel Anderson Stadium for their clash against Manly Sea Eagles on August 18.

The NRL has dubbed round 25 Daniel Anderson Round, with the competition to unite to raise funds for the ex-Warriors, Parramatta, St Helens and NZ Kiwis coach.

Last year, the 56-year-old suffered a catastrophic spinal cord injury following a body surfing accident on the New South Wales' Central Coast which has left him paralysed.

A special ticket offer for the match will be released later this month with proceeds from every purchase being donated to the Daniel Anderson Support Fund, which has been set up to help Anderson with essential equipment for his home and specialist treatment.

Managing director and co-founder Mike Gray said Go Media wanted to do all it could to help the cause.

"What better way to acknowledge Daniel’s contribution to the club than to rename Go Media Stadium in his honour," said Gray.

The Warriors have also moved the club's annual old boys' day to coincide with the match against Manly.

A large group of players from Anderson’s era are expected to gather in support of their former coach, who oversaw a golden era with the club.

In his first head coaching role, he steered the Warriors through one of their most successful periods, guiding them to their first playoffs series in 2001 and the Grand Final in 2002.

He also coached the NZ Kiwis team from 2003 to 2005, before heading to England to take the helm at St Helens, whom he guided to consecutive Challenge Cup victories in 2007 and 2008.

The Warriors will don the 2003 throwback jersey for the match, the iconic black and silver strip synonymous with the season when the Warriors went within one win of making the grand final for the second straight year.

Anderson currently works for Syndey Roosters as head of recruitment.
