Kiwi Lydia Ko sits two shots off the lead at the LPGA's Evian Championship, after shooting a five-under 66 in her opening round at Evian-les-Bains, France.
Ko, 26, trails leader Paula Reto of South Africa by two shots after the opening round, having carded five birdies in a blemish free start to the tournament.
The Kiwi sits in a four-way tie for second place, alongside local hope Celine Boutier of France, Thailand's Wichanee Meechai and Alison Lee of the US.
Starting on the back nine, Ko made even par for her first seven holes, before a birdie on the 17th kickstarted her round.
Moving to the front nine, Ko made birdies on the second, fifth, seventh and ninth holes, shooting up the leaderboard to hold a tie for second heading into the second day.
"It wasn't the smoothest start," said Ko. "But when I was in trouble I was able to make good ups and downs, and I think that helped with the momentum.
"Whereas I feel like sometimes trying to make those par saves are more the momentum taker than birdies at times.
"So [it's] nice to finish off on a high birdieing the last and playing really well on the back nine, but hopefully [a] less shaky start tomorrow.
"But I think all in all it was solid. Even though things may not be 100 percent, I think that's part of the game.
"You're trying to shoot the best score you can and sometimes it may not look pretty on the scorecard. But there are no pictures on the scorecard as well."
Ko is no stranger to success at the Evian Championship. In 2015, it was the site of her first Major victory, defeating the US' Lexi Thompson by six strokes.
But despite a second Major win at the ANA Inspiration one year later, Ko is yet to add a third title to her collection.
