South Africa are bracing for what they feel is an All Blacks team riding high on confidence, after rediscovering their form of old.
The last time the two rivals met, New Zealand were on a run of losses that had coach Ian Foster clinging to his job, but after both sides had convincing wins last week, their clash on Saturday shapes as a blockbuster that could define the Rugby Championship.
The Springboks had their full contingent back training in Auckland and, after 13 players skipped last weekend's win over Australia, they're fresh and ready to face their archrivals.
"Whenever the Springboks and New Zealand meet, it's always a tough battle," said Springboks winger Cheslin Kolbe. "I'm a firm believer it's what you do during the week and what confidence you can get from that."
Last time they met, the picture was quite different. The All Blacks were a team in crisis and Foster was on the verge of losing his job, before a stunning turn around at Ellis Park.
Springboks coach Jacques Nienaber feels that's been a springboard for the All Blacks, who have now well and truly found their rhythm.
"They're definitely back on form and they've got back their confidence," he said. "After that, if I'm not mistaken, they went on a pretty good run."
That run continued last week with a dominant win.
The 'Boks back themselves to halt their momentum, but they're wary of several key returning players. Lock Sam Whitelock's potential presence is very much front of mind.
"He's a guy that grafts around the field, works really hard and is a real no nonsense player, so I think he'll make a real difference to their pack, if he plays," said counterpart Lood de Jager.
Whether he fronts or not, South Africa know they're in for an arm wrestle, and are taking no notice of the All Blacks' recent home losses to Ireland and Argentina.
"New Zealand haven't lost their aura, they are still a formidable side," Nienaber said.
The Springboks are rolling out the compliments, as the next chapter in this cherished rivalry is written.
