Days after the biggest win of his career, Kiwi golfer Ryan Fox has failed to make the cut in the Open de France at Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines.
Last week, the world No.31 rattled off six birdies over the back nine holes at Wentworth to take out the BMW Championship, leaping to third on the series standings and all but booking his PGA Tour card in the United States next year.
In a case of penthouse to outhouse, he has one stroke outside the weekend cutline at Le Golf National, despite carding a three-under par 68 on the second day, mixing six birdies - including three in succession - with three bogeys.
The damage was done on the opening round of 75, which included a double-bogey on the par-four 15th.
Fox, 36, began his second round with another dropped shot on the par-four first, but gained strokes back on the second, third and fourth. He closed the round with a birdie on the 18th - rated the toughest hole on the course - but fell just short of the weekend.
Fellow Kiwi Daniel Hillier - also a winner on the European Tour this year - finished tied with Fox on one over, finishing with an even-par 71 on the second round.
Englishman Jordan Smith leads with 12-under par, after carding a 64, sitting three shots clear of Scot Ewen Ferguson.
The series takes a break next week for the Europe v USA Ryder Cup at Rome, before Fox defends his Alfred Dunhill Links Championship title in Scotland.
