NZ Warriors have been caught up in a venue stoush before Saturday's NRL Grand Final qualifier against Brisbane Broncos at Suncorp Stadium.
Penrith Panthers chief executive Brian Fletcher wants the NRL to move the Broncos v Warriors game to a more neutral stadium, claiming the home side have an unfair advantage by being allowed to play in front of a home crowd.
Two-time defending champions Penrith finished atop the competition table, but aren't allowed to play at their homeground of BlueBet Stadium, which can only seat 20,000 people. They've been forced to move their clash with Melbourne Storm down the road to Accor Stadium, which can seat 80,000.
"The system in place has to updated to give everyhodby an equal chance," said Fletcher. "It should be that everybody has the chance to play their semi-finals at home in week one and week two, but after that, every other final should be played at a neutral, major stadium.
"Brisbane gets two semi-finals at home and it's unfair. Why should they play two semi-finals at home?"
It is all being seen as mindgames. The Broncos finished second in the regular season and they've earned the right to play in front of a home crowd add it will be a sellout.
"We have earned the right to play at Suncorp, of course we have," said Broncos boss Dave Donaghy. "Look, I have a lot of respect for ‘Fletch’ and I can understand their frustrations, but you aren't comparing apples and apples.
"The reality is, in Brisbane, we are fortunate to have a world-class stadium that holds 50,000-odd people. It will be a hell of a spectacle."
"For rugby league fans, Saturday night at Suncorp will be pretty special."
The Warriors won't want for support, with a large Kiwi fanbase in the Queensland capital.
The Panthers have had success at Accor Stadium, winning their last two preliminary finals there, as well as last year's Grand Final.
