NRL: Webster whanau turn out in full force to support NZ Warriors coach in playoffs opener against Penrith Panthers

As the sun came down in enemy territory and the defeated Warriors movement made its way out of Penrith's Blue Bet Stadium, the 'Webby movement' suddenly emerged.

Fans appeared, clutching face masks of their new Warriors hero - coach Andrew Webster.

Included in that movement, were the extended members of the Webster family, but mum is his No.1 fan and even handed out facemasks of her son on his return to his former homeground.

Webster, 41, is a large part of the Warriors success story this season, taking the team from their worst season in 2022 to a top-four NRL side one year later.

Now, he is favourite to be crowned Coach of the Year at this year's Dally M Awards.

"I'm very proud indeed," dad Phil Webster told Newshub. "He's achieved quite a bit, so I'm proud of him indeed."

Despite the loss to Penrith, Webster felt the support from his family in the stands.

"They mean so much to me," said the Warriors coach. "I had 52 family here tonight, so we'll get home to New Zealand, to my New Zealand family too."

Whanau first, but the Warriors are very much a close second in the Webster household.
