With another international season in the bag, Dame Noeline Taurua now faces another uncertain year ahead, as she ponders her own future as head coach.
The Silver Ferns finished their turbulent campaign on a high in Auckland on Monday, squaring the Constellation Cup series against the world champion Australians.
It was a positive end to a year that included their worst ever finish at a World Cup, leaving Dame Noeline with mixed emotions about 2023.
"Life is like a box of chocolates, I was sort of thinking like that," Taurua told Newshub.
But their effort in their last two outings against the Diamonds was clear evidence of progress within the squad, who are now focusing on January's quad series.
"I would like us to get back up and bring home that trophy," said Taurua.
That series could end up being Taurua's swansong. She's extended her contract to includes the tournament against England, South Africa, and Australia, but is still uncertain if she wants to continue beyond that.
Either way, she's issuing a warning.
"I feel like we are a better team than what we are currently producing, which when you look at it, is probably quite scary for the opposition."
Fighting words from Dame Noeline, whose next series could determine her future.
