NZ Warriors midfielder Brayden Wiliame has announced his retirement from rugby league at 30 years old.
Last year, the Australian signed a two-year deal with the Warriors but scarcely featured in the club's resurgent finals campaign.
Wiliame played just two first-grade matches for the Auckland-based NRL franchise, spending the majority of his tenure in New Zealand with the NSW Cup team, as he struggled to crack coach Andrew Webster's centre rotation.
Ongoing injuries then culminated with an ankle issue sustained during an NSW Cup playoffs game that required surgery.
The New South Welshman began his NRL career with the Parramatta Eels in 2013 but played most of his first-grade rugby league with Manly Sea Eagles, where he spent two seasons and made 23 appearances in the 2015-16 seasons.
In 2017, he joined French side Catalans Dragons, playing 77 games across three seasons, before returning for a brief stint with St George Illawarra before linking with the Warriors.
He also earned nine international caps for Fiji.
"This journey has been anything but smooth but I’m grateful for every moment because it’s lead me to exactly where I’m meant to be," said Wiliame in an Instagram post.
"I need to make particular mention to the [NZ Warriors] for their support since I arrived here both on and off the field. I came with every intention to play in the NRL again and though it was short lived I’m proud as to be a Warrior.
Wiliame is the co-founder of a business named 'TotalEdge360', dedicated to "enhancing athletes on and off the field."
"My family and I have stories to last a lifetime because of this sport and will be forever grateful. One door's closing and another one is opening.
"Excited as for what’s next."
Wiliame's departure alongside Josh Curran - who's understood to be negotiating with rival clubs - could potentially up two roster spots for the Warriors in 2024.
