Sailing: New Zealand cleared to resume SailGP campaign with new wing at Cadiz

New Zealand have been cleared to resume their SailGP campaign at Cadiz this weekend, after finally replacing a wing broken last month.

The Kiwis were well placed after the opening day at Saint-Tropez, when disaster struck on their way back to port, rendering them unable to compete the event or contest the following leg at Taranto, as a replacement wing was located.

Awarded a fifth-placed finish in Italy, the Peter Burling-led team currently sit fifth on the season standings and need a strong showing in Spain to resurrect their title hopes, after losing to Australia in last year's final.

They were given the all-clear to line up, after completing a successful training day this week.

"We're incredibly excited to be back," said Burling. "It's been quite a different journey for us as a team, but to have a wing again and be back racing is something we're really excited for.

"There's been a lot of talk about the redress policy, but from our point of view, we’re looking forward to moving on and we know we will have to put together some really solid performances together to get back to the top of the leaderboard."

New Zealand lag 12 points behind leaders Australia, with Great Britain, Spain and Denmark also ahead of them on the table.
