Basketball: NZ Breakers guard Will McDowell-White faces lengthy injury absence

NZ Breakers have been dealt another injury blow, with standout guard Will McDowell-White to spend an extended period on the sidelines.

The Australian Boomer will be out of action for at least six weeks with a fractured foot, sustained during Thursday night's win over Tasmania JackJumpers.

McDowell-White started the game, but was unable to take the court for the second half, with his side rallying to hold on for a much-needed win.

The Brisbane native missed the opening round of the season with a hand injury and will now join American import Zylan Cheatham on the shelf.

Last year, McDowell-White, 24, signed a two-year extension with the Breakers, turning down several offers to remain with the 2022/23 finalists.

He is posting per game averages of 9.3 points, 4.8 assists and 3.5 rebounds, as well as 1.3 steals.

The Breakers currently sit eighth of 10 teams on the competition ladder.
