Kiwi alpine skier Alice Robinson has claimed her first Giant Slalom World Cup podium finish since 2021, winning a silver medal in Vermont on Sunday (NZ time).
The result marks her sixth World Cup podium of her career, as she was edged late by Switzerland’s Lara Gut-Behrami to be denied gold.
Robinson, 21, blitzed her first run to move to the top of the standings, the only skier to go under 57 seconds, besting Olympic champion Sara Hector of Sweden.
The 2019 junior world champ was considerably slower in the second, as she battled with increasingly challenging conditions, opening the door for Gut-Behrami to go faster by just 0.62s overall and claim victory.
Nevertheless, the Queenstown product was rapt with her performance.
"I am so happy," said Robinson. "I was so happy with my first run, it was a bit unexpected.
"Then second run, I wanted to go for it. I definitely had a few mistakes that maybe cost me the win but it was so tight after the first run that anything could have happened, so to finish in second place is amazing."
Robinson's effort sees her move into third in the overall standings.
"I was a little bit nervous but I felt calm," she added.
"I was just pretty excited to be in that position again and be in the position to be really mixing it for the top spots. I was more excited than nervous."
Robinson will try to go one better in Quebec, Canda next weekend.
