The White Ferns have bounced back with a crushing 131-run win over Pakistan in their opening one-day international at Queenstown.
With a point to prove after their shock T20 series defeat against the same opponents, the old guard of Suzie Bates and captain Sophie Devine stepped up to ensure the hosts got a much-needed win on the board.
Sent into bat, Bates' composed 108, Devine's whirlwind 70 off 36 balls, a well-compiled 83 from Amelia Kerr and a career-best 86 from Bridget Bezuidenhout saw the hosts post an intimidating total of 365/4.
Pakistan's response started with some promise, but quickly crumbled in the face of such a gaudy target, as they were eventually dismissed in the final over for 234.
The results sees New Zealand take a 1-0 lead in the three-game series.
Openers Bates and Bezuidenhout ensured the White Ferns had the ideal platform for their innings. The pair laid on a 165-run partnership, with Bezuidenhout recording her maiden ODI half-century, before she was run out just past the halfway mark of the innings.
Amelia Kerr (83) ensured there was little momentum lost, quickly easing into her work alongside Bates, who was in vintage touch. In the 38th over, the Dunedinite swept behind square to bring up her 13th ODI century for New Zealand.
She departed shortly afterwards for 108 off 104 balls, bringing a belligerent Sophie Devine to the crease.
The skipper wasted no time putting the Pakistan attack to the sword, blasting six sixes - including four in a single over - en route to a score of 70 off just 36 balls, as the hosts rocketed to an imposing total.
Pakistan's pursuit got off to an encouraging start, before an opening stand of 110 was undone by Devine in the 19th over.
Sidra Ameen was resolute in the middle, anchoring the Pakistan innings with a stoic century, while wickets regularly fell around her. She was eventually run out in the 44th over for 105 off 117 balls, while the rest of the order collapsed.
Kerr was the pick of the NZ bowlers with 3/44, while Lea Tahuhu chipped in with 2/45 off seven overs.
The teams now travel to Christchurch for the second match of the series on Friday.
