Veteran Australian guard Mitch McCarron has been confirmed on a two-year contract with NZ Breakers.
After more than 200 Aussie NBL games across nine years and three teams, the veteran will fill a vacancy in the Breakers backcourt, where Will McDowell-White will chase his fortunes in Europe and Izayah Le'afa has transferred to Sydney Kings.
McCarron, 31, began his career with Cairns Taipans and helped Melbourne United win a championship in 2021, but spent the past three unhappy seasons with Adelaide 36ers.
He currently plays in the New Zealad NBL with Taranaki Mountain Airs, where he averages 7.3 points and 7.0 assists a game.
Breakers coach Mody Maor sees McCarron as a perfect complement for American Parker Jackson-Cartwright in the guardline.
"Parker will make an advantage and Mitch will take it from there," he says. "I see this being really fruitful.
"Mitch is a championships-calibre player and belongs on winning teams. The role he will play for us will be much more similar to the role he played at Melbourne United, where he won a championship, than his time in Adelaide.
"I see Mitch and Parker really playing off each other."
McCarron is the fifth player to sign for a completely revamped roster. Jackson-Cartwright joins centre Dane Pineau from last year's squad, with young Kiwis Sam Mennenga and Mojave King also arriving at the Auckland club.
ESPN has reported former NBA draftee Jonah Bolden has also been lined up by the Breakers.
