Australian-born NBA forward Jonah Bolden has been confirmed on the newlook NZ Breakers roster for the 2024/25 Aussie NBL.
Bolden, 28, is the son of ANBL legend Bruce Bolden and was selected by Philadelphia 76ers in the 2017 NBA draft, making 61 appearances for the Sixers and Phoenix Suns across two seasons, before retiring to pursue a career in cryptocurrency.
Last year, he returned to the court with Sydney Kings, playing 28 games, and averaging 8.5 points and 6.4 rebounds, while shooting 38 percent from the three-point arc.
He won the Israeli League championship in 2018, when Breakers coach Mody Maor was in charge of Hapoel Jerusalem.
"I was surprised how good Jonah looked last season, having not played for three years," said Maor. "His shot was great and his body looked good.
"He was versatile, able to shoot, put the ball on the floor and play in the post. I'm looking forward to Jonah arriving in Auckland and unlocking everything he can do."
Bolden is currently playing for top-of-the-table Capitanes de Arecibo in Puerto Rico, where he is averaging 10 points and 8.3 rebounds, shooting 38.3 percent from long distance. Also on his team is former Breakers guard David Stockton, son of NBA Hall of Famer and assist leader John Stockton.
Bolden joins a Breakers squad that returns only American guard Parker Jackson-Cartwright and centre Dane Pineau from last season. Young Kiwis Sam Mennenga and Mojave King, and Aussie guard Mitch McCarron have also been added to the roster.
