Blackcaps coach Gary Stead has revealed he will be making changes to the starting 11 that lost to Afghanistan in their opening game of the Twenty20 World Cup.
New Zealand take on West Indies at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad & Tobago on Thursday in what is expected to be another low-scoring contest.
After his side slumped to an 84-run defeat against Afghanistan, their first ever loss to the nation, Stead acknowledged a slightly different side will take the field for their crucial second match.
"I expect there will be some changes," said Stead.
"I think every game we try and go in and work out what our best matchups are and that comes from a bit of data analysis and video that we do in our scouting.
"It's also a different surface so others may come into our thinking about what are the best match-ups."
Although Stead didn't reveal exactly who would be dropped and added for the contest, he said having a variety of bowling options captain Kane Williamson can call upon will be important.
"It's about making sure we've got our bases covered in the players that can probably provide spin and seam, so making sure we get that balance right will be important.
"I've said right from the start I think we've got 15 players that could slot into the order, so we consider all the positions and players that we've got."
A loss for the Blackcaps would be a devastating blow for their World Cup campaign.
With only two teams from each pool qualifying for the knockout stages, a defeat would leave New Zealand needing West Indies to beat Afghanistan to have any chance of qualifying.
"This is essentially a knockout game so we're going to give it everything we've got," said Stead.
"We know things are stacked against us at the moment but that's the challenge, that's the cards we've been dealt. For us, it's about holding the belief and the confidence within the group that we can go out there and do this."
