Star Wellington Phoenix goalkeeper Alex Paulsen is reportedly on the verge of a blockbuster move to the English Premier League.

According to sources in the UK and Europe, Paulsen is nearing a deal to join Bournemouth.

The All White international was a revelation during the team's historic run to the A-League semi-finals, earning the award for the A-League's best goalkeeper. He was also named captain of the competition's Team of the Season.

Heavyweights Liverpool and Chelsea were also reportedly interested in his services.

According to Sky Sports UK, the initial transfer fee for Paulsen, 21, is set at $1.8 million, which could rise to as high as $4.2m.

The Phoenix refuse to comment on the transfer speculation, but confirm "there's been a lot of interest in Alex as result of his performances this season".

Bournemouth's owner is American Bill Foley, who also owns the A-League expansion team Auckland FC.

Bournemouth finished 12th in the premier league this season, and their current keepers include Norberto Murara Neto, Mark Travers and Will Dennis.
