NRL: Canterbury Bulldogs claim dramatic golden point win over Cronulla Sharks thanks to Matt Burton field goal

The Canterbury Bulldogs have continued their red-hot form in the NRL, claiming a dramatic 15-14 golden point win over Cronulla Sharks thanks to a field goal from sharpshooter Matt Burton.

The win is the Bulldogs' fourth in their last five, with the side climbing to fifth on the ladder.

With the two teams locked at 14 points each, Burton lined up a shot from 35 meters out in the 84th minute that glanced the right post before bouncing over.

The game-winner sent the home fans into a frenzy as the Bulldogs claimed the first golden point clash between the two sides.

Burton had missed two earlier field goal attempts to seal the win, but the five-eighth was eventually the hero for his side after Cronulla failed to capitalise on his misses.

It was another agonizing loss for the Sharks, who have fallen from first place to third after two straight losses by a combined three points.

The NZ Warriors play the Bulldogs in round 18.
