Emergency services were called just before 3pm on Good Friday after a boat began to sink near Tiritiri-Matangi Island.
Among the concerns about Lance Goodhew were complaints over alcohol consumption and a near-miss with another vessel.
Since the pandemic around 300,000 new boaties have taken to the water.
Police, Coastguard and Ambulance staff responded to the emergency.
"I flipped my old man over, just trying to shrug him - like 'hey, get up'... His lips were white."
Police would like to thank those members of the public who offered their assistance at the scene.
It's understood she had fallen overboard.
