The crash left the ferry skipper, Bill Elliott, with critical head and spinal injuries.
He pleaded not guilty to four other charges, with sentencing expected on Wednesday.
"I have concluded that there should be some additional penalty," said the judge.
A High Court jury found her guilty of murder on August 16.
Last month, police deployed teams to patrol west Auckland transport hubs due to a rise in assaults and robberies.
The jury decided Beer was a calculated killer who set fire to the house and left Field to burn to death.
The defendant sat motionless as he appeared in the Hamilton District Court.
The woman appeared at Waitākere District Court late Friday afternoon and was granted interim name suppression.
The man is expected to appear in Hamilton District Court.
