The crash happened on Friday night just after 11pm.
Fire crews were called to the scene on Tītoki Street just before 6:30am on Friday.
The death wasn't being treated as suspicious.
"A person at the address was in critical condition but despite best efforts of medical personnel to revive them, sadly died at the scene."
A rāhui will also be established in the wider area, with details to be confirmed.
Police say there is nothing to suggest anything suspicious had taken place.
"We're seeing a lot of younger people moving into Kapiti, we'd call them change-makers."
Joe Pryor left work on Friday morning and said he would be back in a couple of hours - but never returned.
