Kapa Haka festival Te Matatini was given a massive boost in last month's Budget.
The group competed against 11 other groups at Auckland's Eden Park.
"I liken Te Matatini to the Māori Olympics."
The Australian-born singer had been wanting to perform with the group since he was a little boy.
"It's about accessibility of kapa haka to the world."
"We said from the start that our hau kainga was our fuel today and we've maintained that all the way here."
There is a stall for every type of festival-goer
The kapa haka group dedicated their performance to the late Jade Moses.
The festival is being held at Auckland's Eden Park.
