Despite coming close to power cuts on Tuesday night, Transpower says Cantabrians won't have to conserve electricity again.
Mercury said it would put credit on the accounts of affected customers but other companies are yet to confirm any reimbursement.
Transpower said it did not have enough generation to maintain the demand.
The outage is primarily affecting Lower Hutt.
Crews were dispatched to assess the fault late on Wednesday afternoon.
