Today is the day Microsoft's Xbox Series X and Series S are released and due to our timezone, New Zealanders are the first in the world to get their hands on the gaming consoles.
Xbox ANZ marked the launch with a livestream event which included a giant scale model Xbox Series X on Lake Wakitipu in Queenstown, which was labelled #Greenstown for the occasion.
As the clock struck midnight on November 10, a light show was projected onto the giant console and green lights lit up the township and part of the surrounding Remarkables mountain range.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions having been lifted in Aotearoa, a crowd was able to gather at Lake Wakitipu and observe the event first-hand - something which wouldn't be possible in many countries fighting the pandemic.
As well as footage of the presentation in Lake Wakitipu, the livestream also featured guest appearances from Xbox executives and game creators, previously unseen gameplay from titles including Assassin's Creed Valhalla and Destiny 2, along with several prize pack giveaways.
Meanwhile, the Sony PlayStation 5 is released on Thursday, although it hasn't been announced if a similar launch event will be held in New Zealand.
