Swedish financial and shopping service Klarna has launched in New Zealand offering Kiwis another means of paying off their purchases.
Klarna's 'Pay in 4' is a service similar to other players in the market like Afterpay and Laybuy, giving consumers the option to buy online and pay off purchases with four interest-free payments.
The app, which is available on both iOS and Android, can be used at virtually any online store and directly with partners.
"We are so excited to launch in New Zealand and have a pipeline of great retailers who will be launching with us in the near future, including the Cotton On Group, Hanes Group, Kookaï and a range of other big names," said Country Head of Klarna New Zealand & Australia Fran Ereira.
"The response from consumers and retailers since our launch in Australia has been incredibly positive, with more than 600 retailers partnering with us and well over 750,000 consumers in just over a year, and we're confident New Zealanders will have a similar positive reaction."
Kiwis interested in using the service will have to undergo a credit check prior to their first purchase. It promises never to charge interest and to actively help customers never miss a payment using notifications, SMS messages and emails.
"We know Kiwis are sophisticated online shoppers who seek convenience but are mindful of smart spending and are moving away from traditional forms of credit with interest and fees," said Klarna CEO and co-founder Sebastian Siemiatkowski.
"That's why Klarna focuses on offering innovative shopping solutions that allow consumers to take control and shop on their own terms, saving them time and eliminating hassle."
ASB customers will be the first in Aotearoa able to sign up to use Klarna via their ASB mobile app.
