Kiwi gamers will have the opportunity to mine cryptocurrency as well as keep their computer safe with a new feature from Norton available to 360 for Gamers customers.
As well as Game Optimizer functionality, subscribers will have access to Crypto2 when it launches in the coming weeks, enabling them to safely and easily mine cryptocurrency while their devices are idle, the company said.
"As gaming and cryptomining begin to take a larger role in people's digital lives, it's important we continue to quickly innovate and develop the tools that empower consumers to keep their information, devices and identity safe without interference," said Gagan Singh, chief product officer of NortonLifeLock.
"We want gamers to use Game Optimizer so they can stay focused on the challenges of their game, not the distraction and risk of cyber threats. We also want to help people put their PC's idle time to good use with Norton Crypto providing an easy and safe way to mine cryptocurrencies."
Cryptocurrencies have been a hot topic recently with China last month banning financial institutions from providing any services related to cryptocurrency, including trading.
That sent the value of many currencies down, with the value of both bitcoin and dogecoin already impacted by Tesla CEO Elon Musk's tweets about them.
Tesla invested US$1.5 billion in bitcoin earlier this year but announced it was halting the ability to pay for cars using the cryptocurrency last month due to the environmental impact of bitcoin mining.
This week, El Salvador's congress approved a new law accepting bitcoin as legal tender, with every business having to accept it as legal tender for goods and services unless it is unable to provide the technology to do so.
Norton's Game Optimizer, available now, will reduce performance interruptions while still maintaining security, said the company. It will do this by forcing power-hungry programmes to a single CPU core, thereby allocating as much computing resources as possible to be dedicated to the performance of the game.
"With Game Optimizer, not only is my information safe, but my gameplay is seamless," said gaming influencer Katharine 'KatContii' Conti, who has over 110,000 subscribers on streaming platform Twitch.
"It was created by gamers for gamers and gives me peace of mind without sacrificing performance."
As well as Crypto2 and Game Optimizer the company is also rolling out its Dark Web Monitoring feature to 13 additional countries.
Dark Web Monitoring continuously searches the dark web for gamertags and notifies gamers if their usernames or email addresses are found on the dark web.
More than 62,000 notifications have been sent to date, the company said.
