The government's new health website, My Covid Record, is going to offer electronic vaccination certificates for use on your smartphone in the near future.
The website, launched this week, currently only lets people over the age of 16 have access to their vaccination records.
But the functionality is expanding, with the Ministry of Health (MoH) website saying both overseas and domestic vaccination certificates will be available to download to mobile phones.
"There will be two different vaccination certificates – one for use within New Zealand and one for international travel," the website states.
"Your international certificate will have more personal information so it can be used alongside your passport.
"The certificates will include a QR code which you'll be able to print or save on your smartphone in your Apple Wallet or Google Pay."
The new functionality will be available by the end of November and the certificates will be able to be printed out if users prefer to have a hard copy instead of a digital version.
The certificates will meet international standards, according to the MoH.
The QR code on the domestic version will be able to be scanned at venues in Aotearoa, depending on whether a decision is made to require proof of vaccination for entry.
The Ministry is also looking at how to record the information for those who can't be vaccinated for medical reasons.
Currently if you require proof of vaccination, a letter has to be requested from the Ministry of Health which takes up to 10 working days.
Other functionality coming for My Covid Record includes being able to see recent COVID-19 test results.
It will show both positive and negative results, but not those pending or inconclusive.
