GoPro has revealed the winning videos of its annual competition designed to celebrate the very best videos captured by people using its cameras.
The resulting incredible two-and-a-half minute video compilation of the winning clips showcases several extreme sports and natural phenomena.
The 2023 Million Dollar Challenge was open to people using HERO11 Black and HERO11 Black Mini cameras and the company said it received 42,446 submissions from 126 countries.
While no one from New Zealand made it into the money, five different Australian entries did, each claiming a prize of AU$27,540.
There is footage from 55 creators representing 21 countries in the winning video. The clips include people swimming with whales, riding on the wings of a plane in mid-air, skydiving, mountain-biking, skiing, surfing, scuba diving, go-karting and white water rafting, to name just a few.
On the GoPro YouTube account, commenters have been quick to praise the winning footage.
"Awesome clips. Enjoyed this very much," said one.
"Super high quality shots again this year, the forklift shot was ridiculous!" added another.
A third commenter added: "Honestly that brought a tear to my eye!"
"Kudos to every creator who made the cut in this clip for their amazing creativeness," said another.
It's the fifth annual Million Dollar Challenge, bringing the total GoPro has awarded to entrants so far up to US$5 million.
Maybe next year we'll see a Kiwi's work in the winning video.
The full video can be viewed in 4K resolution in the embedded clip below and people interested in entering the 2024 competition can find the details on how to do so on the GoPro website.
