UFC president Dana White claims to have been in contact with Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg, and insists both are serious about physically fighting each other.
The billionaire CEOs of Twitter and Facebook agreed on social media to a 'cage match' this week to much excitement on the internet - and to White, who could stand to profit greatly from the fight, after Musk said it should take place at a UFC venue.
"Talked with Mark and Elon last night, both guys are absolutely dead serious about this," White told TMZ.
"The biggest fight of all time was Floyd [Mayweather] and Conor [McGregor]. I just think [Zuckerberg vs Musk] triples that - it triples what that did, there's no limit on what that thing can make."
Since the social media comments were made, an official spokesperson for Zuckerberg's company Meta confirmed he was serious about the fight, telling the BBC: "The story speaks for itself."
No official comment from Musk has been published yet, although he has tweeted about it several times with jokes and emojis. However, he has also tweeted saying he wants the match to be "full MMA" rather than restricted to jiu jitsu, a martial art Zuckerberg has been competing in recently.
"The most entertaining outcome is the most likely," Musk replied to another tweet about the fight.
Meanwhile, gambling organisations have published odds about the potential match and some are taking bets on those odds, as follows:
- Zuckerberg - 1/5 (-500), or implied chance of 83.3 percent
- Musk - 2/1 (+300), or implied chance of 25 percent.
The rivalry between the two tech billionaires has heated up recently as Meta has reportedly been developing a text-based micro-blogging social network designed to compete with Twitter.
