One of the great heartbreaks of New Zealand’s recent Olympic history, Emma Twigg has missed out on a rowing single sculls medal - twice.
Despite entering both London and Rio de Janeiro as a genuine medal contender, Twigg finished fourth on both occasions, but is back for another shot in Tokyo.
A household name in single sculls, Twigg has won five world championship medals, dating back to 2010, with a gold in 2014, silver in 2013 and 2019, and bronze in 2010 and 2011.
On her way to that world championship gold medal victory in Amsterdam, Twigg also went through the entire 2014 season unbeaten.
Off the water, Twigg is a vocal advocate for LGBT+ in sport.
