Singapore Airlines' new service from Wellington to Singapore takes off from Friday morning, but this time the flight has a stopover in Melbourne.
Last week the airline ended their service to Singapore via Canberra.
A new departure time for the service out of the capital will mean an evening arrival in Singapore. Evening arrivals are popular with travellers on long haul flights as it means you don't have too long to wait before you can get a decent sleep. It also means faster connection times to Singapore Airlines' services to Europe and India.
The service will be operated under the same code-sharing agreement with Air New Zealand as the previous service. Singapore Airlines' close relationship with our national airline means a price war on Wellington to Melbourne services is unlikely.
Singapore Airlines New Zealand General Manager, Mr Simon Turcotte, said the airline has recorded double digit growth on the number of passengers travelling to Singapore from Wellington.
There's also a change to the days of departure with a greater focus on weekends. The flights will now depart on Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
The flight will be operated by a Boeing 777-200 aircraft.
