There's one item I always take with me when I'm going overseas for more than a few days, and it's as simple and as helpful as remembering your passport.
Imagine being in a hotel room. You've got your phone to charge, you want to use your laptop and charge your camera, all at the same time.
There's either not enough plugs, or you've only got one of those super expensive adapters to convert our New Zealand plugs to fit into those overseas ones.
One simple and cheap item will fix this.
If you take a cheap power board (sometimes referred to as a multi-board or multi-plug), you can charge everything up at once. Plus, if your luggage is getting on the heavy side, just leaving the power board behind at the hotel is fine, considering how little they cost.
Once I started taking one of these with me, I wondered how I ever managed without it.
