Star Wars fans have a new holiday destination from tomorrow as Disneyland Resort in Los Angeles unveils its latest star attraction to the world.
At almost seven hectares in size, Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge is the largest single themed land expansion in Disney's history and its official unveiling takes place in Anaheim on Wednesday (local time), before it opens to the public the next day.
Virgin Australia partnered up with Disney to fly fans from Down Under to Galaxy's Edge and to celebrate, they surprised passengers with Storm Troopers on patrol, Kylo Ren at the ticketing desk, a pilot wielding a light saber and an R2 unit in the Virgin Australia lounge.
Mid-air Jedi training camps and Star Wars-themed in-flight dining en route was the icing on the galactic cake.
Disney is calling their new theme park the most technologically advanced they've ever created, as guests immerse themselves in a new planet called Batuu.
Five years in the making, the Black Spire Outpost on Batuu is not unlike Tatooine's Mos Eisley spaceport and is home to a host of scoundrels and smugglers and packed to the gunnels with rides, experiences, merchandise and food.
The park even has its theme music courtesy of new music created by Oscar-winning composer John Williams.
For the first three weeks after opening, fans will only get access with a reservation and have a limited time to visit. After that though, all bets are off.
Expect the queues for the much-hyped Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run ride to wrap around Greater Los Angeles, a waiting time your average Star Wars super-fan will only be too happy to sign up for.
