Weather: Multiple Christchurch flights cancelled due to heavy fog

Multiple flights in and out of Christchurch were delayed or cancelled on Saturday morning due to heavy fog.

International flights from Australia and Singapore have been delayed, while domestic flights from around New Zealand have put on hold as of 11am.

Air NZ advises anyone who booked with it to fly via Christchurch to check Christchurch Airport's page for the latest updates.

Images on social media show parts of the city blanketed by the fog, with visibility down to under 100 metres in some areas.

MetService says the mostly-settling weather caused a "bank of low cloud" to form over the city.

The weather forecaster says the fog should clear by midday. However more fog could strike over Saturday night and Sunday morning, especially in the upper North Island.
