An American woman attempting to fly out of Manila has been detained and remanded in custody after she allegedly tried to board her flight with a baby inside her hand luggage.
A spokesperson from the Philippines Immigration Bureau confirmed a 43-year-old woman had been caught with a child in her bag and local media is reporting the child was just six days old.
The Immigration Bureau said the woman was travelling alone and the baby was only discovered when her hand luggage was found to be oversized.
Despite claiming to be the child's auntie, she was unable to prove this at the time, CNN Philippines reported.
The case is being investigated by the country's anti-human trafficking authority.
