Instagram plays a big part in many people's holidays these days - some post pics from their adventures, while others scroll through their feed with admiration and envy.
Travel company Big 7 has released a list of the most instagrammable destinations for 2020 and New Zealand's Lake Tekapo was placed 25th, as the only Kiwi destination to make the top 50.
The top ten most Instagrammable destinations of 2020:
- Sydney, Australia
- Hong Kong
- Dubai, UAE
- New York City, USA
- Singapore
- Tokyo, Japan
- Lisbon, Portugal
- Bali, Indonesia
- London, England
- Jaipur, India
Big 7's scoring system took into account a location's popularity and frequency of postings on Instagram as well as the destination's 'allure'.
Sydney's first place ranking makes the second year that Australia has been named the most instagrammable place in the world.
A massive 67 percent of people surveyed by Big 7 said they have visited a new destination after seeing it on Instagram, while 61 percent of people used the app to decide on hotel accommodation.
There were some interesting results from the survey, such as the iconic pyramids of Egypt only placing 50th, Santorini in Greece coming in at 31st, Paris at 19th and the Maldives at 11th.
