The battle for the Kiwi travel dollar is set to take off with Jetstar listing post-COVID-19 domestic airfares from as low as $34.
Although the airline hasn't officially announced its return to the New Zealand domestic market, its website is selling seats on flights between the major centres from July 1.
"We're monitoring demand on domestic New Zealand routes and working through the current New Zealand in-flight requirements, and will have an update soon," the airline told Newshub.
Jetstar flights from Auckland to Queenstown are on sale now for $79, while Auckland to Christchurch journeys are selling for $44.
On Thursday, Air New Zealand announced a massive boost to its domestic services in July and August, with the airline set to operate at 55 percent of its pre-COVID-19 domestic levels.
A price comparison conducted on Thursday for Auckland-Wellington flights on July 1 revealed Jetstar was offering $34 airfares, while Air New Zealand's were priced at $69.
On days leading up to July 1, airfares on the same Air NZ routes are selling for between $129 and $189, with the fares dropping to around half price on the day Jetstar is expected to resume service.
Air NZ has been approached for comment.
