Picture this: it's 28C and you're poolside at a resort on a tropical island or somewhere on the coast of the mediterranean. There's no COVID-19 and the only Corona comes with a lemon or a lime on the top of it.
While these kinds of experiences may feel very far away - especially as winter is giving New Zealand one last sting of bitterness - locations like these still exist and can be visited, albeit on your phone via Instagram.
Pour Moi, a lingerie and swimwear company, has looked into which beach clubs are the most tagged on the social media platform and revealed Bali as one of the most popular destinations in the world.
"Our research showed that if you're looking for a holiday that features more than one beach club experience, Bali would be your best bet. Not only did the incredible Potato Head Beach Club come in as the most Instagrammed beach club in the world, but a further four venues made it into the top 10," a spokesperson for the company said.
If you like the ideas of bodies in the sand, a tropical drink melting in your hand and falling in love to the rhythm of a steel drum band, then here's five places you might want to go.
Top 20 Most Instagrammed Beach Clubs:
1. Potato Head Beach Club, Seminyak, Bali
Potato Head Beach Club is free to enter, although you'll need to commit to spending a bit at the bar to secure one of the luxurious cabanas or poolside beds.
There's a swim-up bar with views over the beach and regular film screenings, music festivals, concerts and dance parties.
2. Phi Beach, Sardinia, Italy
Draped around the stunning coastline of Sardinia's north coast, Phi Beach is a favourite due to its relaxed atmosphere and location. Although it has a popular selection of fine food and cocktails, it's the sunset that can be viewed from here that make it an Instagram hit.
3. Blue Marlin, Ibiza, Spain
If you're going to Ibiza and you're going to have a party in the Mediterranean Sea, then Blue Marlin should be high on your list, according to these results.
Chart-topping DJs often perform here with audiences listening from the pool, the beach or any of the lounge areas located around the sun-drenched club.
4. Le Club 55, St Tropez, France
Le Club 55 is described as a 'high-class establishment' and is known to draw A-listers from all over the world such as Leonardo DiCaprio and Elton John.
There's a lot to be seen here, but a lot of people seem to be happy enough just to be seen here.
5. Scorpios, Mykonos, Greece
One of the best things about beach clubs is that they easily transition between being daytime hangout spots, evening dining venues and busy late night hotspots.
Scorpios with its bohemian aesthetic overlooking clear blue seas considers this as one of its strong points. You can lie on a sunbed or cabana, dine on tapas, or take part in the famous Sunset Music Ritual, when the music picks up, the bonfires get lit and the dancing starts.
