Auckland's new QT hotel is giving away 150 free stays as part of a treasure hunt to celebrate its opening next month.
QT Auckland is hiding 150 room keys around the city and the finder of each will win a night's accommodation as part of the massive staycay promotion.
Starting Tuesday morning and running for five days, special door shaped posters will be set up around Auckland, each containing a key. But, it's not that easy: treasure hunters will need to crack a code to get their hands on the room key.
The codes will be released daily via the QT Auckland website.
Exact locations are under wraps, but Newshub is aware of hotel posters being installed in suburbs such as Wynyard Quarter, Ponsonby, Grey Lynn, Newmarket and Kingsland.
QT Auckland describes itself as the Viaduct Harbour's 'newest hub for quirky luxury'.
The hotel's general manager Doron Whaite says they always like to do things differently when it comes to launching a hotel.
"QT is all about loving local. With a focus on our community, we wanted to surprise Aucklanders with a chance to be among the first to experience what QT's 'far from ordinary' philosophy is all about," Whaite said.
"We're spending more time in our own backyard with weekend travel and staycations becoming the norm. What better way to treat our locals than to a luxuriously quirky stay with us."
There are 30 keys to be found daily during the promotion, with each rewarding the finder with a one night free stay.
"We're certainly launching an unexpected opportunity for locals to win a chance to stay, and we're excited to give them a taste of the first ever QT Staycay," Whaite said.
A spokesperson for QT Auckland said there are basic terms and conditions such as age restrictions will apply. Full details are available on the hotel's website.
