The creative team at Germany’s Miniatur Wunderland has come up with one of the most unique versions of a Christmas holiday song you’re ever likely to see.
The massive miniature attraction in Hamburg has released a video of ‘Jingle Bells’ featuring Santa Claus sitting on the end of the wing of a Thai Airways A380 taking off from Knuffingen Airport, hitting glass bottles along the way, each with a different note.
Knuffingen Airport is just one part of the wonderland. It simulates around 250 take offs and landings each day using 40,000 LED bulbs (each of them installed manually), 100 km of electric wiring and 15,000 miniature figures.
Miniatur Wunderland is also home to the world’s biggest model railway, with 15,715 metres of tracks making their way through mini versions of the United States, South America and Europe.
When I visited Miniatur Wunderland in 2017, I discovered that some of the mini residents get up to no good, just as much as their full size counterparts. Looking in detail at some of the scenery, I find prostitutes, murder scenes, even a hippy music festival complete with a shaking combi van and a couple of summer lovers having a blast.
