Now we know when the trans-Tasman travel bubble is opening, it's time to find out who is offering the cheapest airfares.
But it turns out there's no clear winner, with the three main competitors offering a wide range of ticket prices to the most popular destinations on both sides of the Tasman.
Newshub Travel has compared the airfares available on the websites of Jetstar, Air New Zealand and Qantas for flights between major cities in Australia and New Zealand. All were recorded on the same date, except for when that date fell on a day when no direct flights were operating, in which case the cheapest airfare from either the day before or after was recorded.
The cheapest airfare overall is a seat-only Air NZ return trip between Christchurch and Melbourne for $569, while the most expensive is a $799 return airfare on Qantas between Christchurch and Sydney.
In order for there to be a fair comparison, airfares were recorded for both seat only and 'The Works' on Air NZ. Meals and beverages are complimentary on all Qantas trans-Tasman flights, but Air NZ offers passengers the option of cheaper ticket if they go without.
