Abel Tasman National Park's stunning Awaroa beach and home to the Moeraki Boulders, Koekohe beach, have been named among the 100 best beaches in the world.
Beach Atlas recently revealed its list of the world's 100 best beaches, with French Polynesia's world-famous Bora Bora island coming in first place.
An array of exotic, far-flung beaches round out the top ten, including Source d'Argent in Seychelles, Greece's Navagio Beach, El Nido in the Phillippines, and closer to home, Whitehaven Beach in the Great Barrier Reef in Australia.
Awaroa narrowly missed out on reaching the top ten, coming in at 15th on the list. Beach Atlas describes the upper South Island jewel, which was given to the Crown after a successful crowdfunding campaign in 2016, as "beautiful and untouched".
Awaroa can only be reached by boat, helicopter or by walking the Abel Tasman Coastal Track.
Further down the list at number 69 is Koekohe Beach, home to the spherical Moeraki Boulders.
"These unusual rocks are peculiar in their shape. They are almost completely spherical, unlike most beach rocks," Beach Atlas writes.
Scientists believe the boulders to be calcite concretions which were formed an estimated 65 million years ago. Each boulder weighs several tonnes and is up to two metres high.
