Kiwis with a sweet tooth heading to the capital will have a new chocolate treat awaiting them with the opening of a new Mövenpick hotel in Wellington.
Accor, the company behind the hotel, opened it to guests on World Chocolate Day, transforming it into an edible chocolate wonderland to celebrate.
Auckland already has a Mövenpick branded hotel, offering guests chocolate hour, a 24-hour sundae service and free ice cream for kids throughout their stay.
The new Wellington hotel features 114 contemporary guest rooms and suites, a signature restaurant and bar, valet parking, a library and more.
It adds to a huge number of options for those wanting a break in the capital, with others avaiable from the likes of Bookabach, Airbnb and Booking.com.
"Launching the Wellington arm of Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts in New Zealand on World Chocolate Day felt truly authentic to the brand, giving them the chance to connect with Wellingtonians on a personal level," said Sarah Derry, chief executive officer Accor Pacific.
"Closely following our Auckland launch in June, we're very excited to bring Mövenpick Hotel Wellington to the market – offering guests a world-class hotel experience while enjoying the distinct moments and flavours of Mövenpick.
"The team loved hosting neighbours and community partners today, including children from the local school, to celebrate and enjoy our signature Mövenpick ice cream sundaes and delicious hand-made chocolate treats."
Mövenpick Hotel Wellington's is located on The Terrace, overlooking the Cuba Quarter, within easy walking distance of some of the best dining and shops available in the capital.
If eating out is too much, then the hotel's signature restaurant and bar, Forage, will also provide culinary options.
Head chef Amey Rane is passionate about sustainable dining and has crafted a menu which focuses on head to tail dining and local ingredients, the company said.
Sweet-toothed guests will also be able to indulge at Mövenpick Hotel Wellington's daily Chocolate Hour – a decadent chocolate experience with live demonstrations, from rolling truffles to icing cupcakes, staged every afternoon in the hotel lobby.
But it's not all indulgence and chocolate - Health Shots, energy shots blended with juice or yoghurt and fresh fruit and vegetables – will also be complementary and offered to guests at the breakfast counter.
