Indonesian locals are furious at a Russian tourist for dropping his pants and posing for a lewd photo on a sacred mountain in Bali.
The man, who goes by the name of Yuri and runs the chila_brazila account on Instagram, has since deleted the offending post and issued an apology over it.
Many called for him to be deported after exposing his genitals and bottom upon Mount Agung, which is considered by some a dwelling of the gods.
It is also an active volcano and the highest point on the island, making it particularly significant to locals.
Indonesian designer Niluh Djelantik reacted to the nude stunt by calling for authorities to "kick out garbage tourists" and travel website Bali Livin called it "beyond rude and disrespectful".
Yuri was reportedly part of a group of around seven foreign tourists who climbed the mountain without registering as hikers, which is also prohibited, according to local reports.
In his apology, Yuri said he is "wildly sorry".
"After studying the culture and religion of Bali, I realised my mistake," he said.
"There is no excuse for my actions. The only thing that led to what happened was my personal ignorance. Ignorance of the peculiarities of the local religion.
"I want to apologise for my actions that desecrated the sacred volcano for the local population."
The outrage over Yuri's photo comes shortly after Bali governor Wayan Koster called on the Foreign Ministry to ban visas-on-arrival for both Russian and Ukrainian visitors, after numerous allegations of tourists from both countries misusing their tourist visas to find work.
